Tonsillolith Misconceptions

People commonly mistake a tonsillolith for something else. A tonsil stone is not caused by tonsillitis! Tonsillitis is a tonsil infection that sometimes needs antibiotics to be treated. To get rid of tonsil stones, you may just need to gargle with warm salt water combined with lime juice. You can also squeeze your throat or use a syringe to dislodge them. However, some people may have a recurring problem, but they can use home remedies which normally take care of the tonsilloliths. Laser surgery may be needed for extreme cases, so be sure to consult your doctor if the problem is persistent.

The next common misconception I will discuss about tonsil stones is that they require a tonsillectomy in order to get rid of them. Tonsillectomies are surgical procedures for removing tonsils. They are not necessary for tonsil stones; there are much easier methods for solving this problem. You can read an article about getting rid of tonsil stones for more information.

Another ailment tonsil stones may be mistaken for is plague. People may mistake it for plague because tonsilloliths look like irregular-shaped chunks of gunk that is sometimes found on teeth. Tonsil stones are not plague growths.
